Toscana Aeroporti was born in 2015 for the purpose of managing the Florence and Pisa airports. It was created from the fusion of Aeroporto di Firenze (ADF), the concessionaire of the Florence Airport, and Società Aeroporto Toscano (SAT), the concessionaire of the Pisa Airport. The synergy between the two airports and the adaptation of their respective infrastructures will make it possible to expand the number of airlines they serve and the number of destinations they can reach. Both airports will maintain their focus on their specific market: Amerigo Vespucci Airport in Florence will continue developing "leisure air traffic" through the full service companies that link the main European airports. Galileo Galilei Airport in Pisa will continue developing the "tourist air traffic", handled by low cost companies, and cargo flights, focusing also on the development of intercontinental flights. During the year 2018, 5.5 million passengers used the Pisa airport, while 2.7 million passengers used the Florence Airport.
