The new terminal of the Carrasco Airport was inaugurated in December 2009. After three and a half years of construction and with an investment of 165 million, the terminal became a simple of pride for the Uruguayans, positioning itself as the main gateway into the country. The new terminal has 44 check-in positions, 8 gates for simultaneous boarding and capacity for 4.5 million passengers per year. The construction was headed by Rafael Viñoly, the internationally renowned architect, and since its inauguration it has been awarded with numerous international awards for its architectural level, esthetics, operational functionality and services. During 2019, 2.0 million passengers used the Carrasco Airport.
