The old airport terminal was fully renewed and turned into a stunning convention center. In another sector of the airport a new building of 50,000 sqm was constructed and fitted with cutting-edge technology. With capacity to receive 7 million passengers a year, this project has commercially boosted the city of Guayaquil, which went from being just a stop to connect to other tourist spots, to becoming a world-class business center. In terms of design and equipment, this airport is among the most advanced in the world, which is reflected by the multiple international awards it has received in acknowledgement for its excellence and quality. During the year 2019, 4.0 million passengers used the Guayaquil Airport.
